A dreary Thursday

It is cold and rainy out...well I think it is cold...I haven't actually left the house yet. And yes still in pj's. My my, but why not when it is just me and the dog and a big pile of paperwork. Yes I got all the to-do's done on my list that I can't concentrate on when the kids are home. They are in school and daycare today so after my 'work' was done it was time to play. With Scrapbook Steals Peridot #5 and Scrapbookin' Adventures Challenge #11 combined, I created a layout about my boys and their cousin.

Monday Craft Madness

Monday Craft Madness at Scrapbook Steals has a different challenge each Monday. The Challenges this month have been babies, dimension, layering, out of the box, and free crafting time. Here are my entries:

MCM #23 Babies
a cute one I finished up last night about Reece

I used Scrapbook challenges sketch

MCM #24 Dimension

I used foam Thickers, 3 D foam adhesive, crocheted hearts and feathers as my dimension.

MCM #25 Layering

I created this layout with the help of Lynn Ghahary's great video walk through of using the 24/7 collection by Simple Stories. lots of layers!

MCM #26 Out of the box

well I mainly scrapbook layouts with the odd card thrown in so this challenge was definetly out of my box. A recent project of mine was a weekly menu board using Thickers and pattern paper. I then use a white board marker to write out my menu for the week. I left off embellishments partly due to the fact it is in a high traffic area (on the way to the playroom) and would probably get bashed a few times and also because I feel sometimes less is more.

MCM #27 Free Crafting Time

well I have lots of that now since I am off work recovering from foot surgery. So here is a favourite layout of mine I did recently. I know I showcased it when I first started the blog 2 weeks ago but I love it and it was one I created myself at open crop at my LSS. It is of my cousin when she was a little girl (she's 17? now) and we were hiking outside of Canmore, Alberta with her parents.

That's all for now = )

Another sketch challenge from Scrapmuch?

and my interpretation:

A sketch challenge from Scrapmuch?

My interpretation:

The May Colour Challenge for Scrapmuch? :

I actually used the sketch from one of their May sketch challenges first...then realized I had also hit all the colours on their colour challenge which I didn't see until after I had finished the layout. Bonus!

My interpretation:

24/7 collection

Sometimes it is fun to just follow someone else's ideas and design for a layout. I learned a few new things from watching this Lynn Ghahary pagemaps may layout video and following it, came out at the end with my similar but not exact layout:

Peridot 4

What is Peridot?? Yeah I didn't know either. Apparently it is an olive green gem. Hence why this series of Scrapbook Steals Midweek Mojo's is named Peridot. Fits right into their 'gem' series theme. Anyway's enough of that...just thought I'd clear it up. Moving on to Peridot 4...the 4th sketch in their series:

Peridot 4

I stayed pretty close to the sketch mainly because I was working on it in snippets throughout the day while also playing ninja turtles, renewing my driver's license, and making Smartie cookies for the school fundraiser amongst a few other dozen things. So yes I needed a reprieve from using the sketch as a starting point and used it as the whole point. Here's mine.

I've got more layouts done but need to move on to packing for my overnight tomorrow to Vancouver. It is my 6 week post-op appointment with my surgeon. Here's hoping for great x-ray results!

Friday 17 May 2013

Good morning. I feel I should be folding laundry but I've been told to take it easy, so I listened to the wise, concerned family and took it easy by finishing a couple layouts.

My interpretation:

I made it into a double layout since I had more pictures to use:

Alright enough 'resting'. Time to fold laundry! Ugh.

The first post

My first post on my blog. I'm not going to lie...this is not going to be an exciting blog. I have zero experience with design, computers, or witty and engaging writing. But I do need a place to put my layouts so here is my place. "A beautiful mess" by Diamond Rio is our song. My husband and I dated for one month and got married six months later. The song came out during that time and the words were fitting. Another term in that song was 'sweet addiction'. Well that is what love is, new love, and seasoned love. My wedding band is engraved inside with "sweet addiction", his with "beautiful mess" to always remind us of our love and life together. Nowadays those words still hold true for us, but they have taken on new meaning for a certain hobby of mine. It was a hobby I dabbled in when I had time over the last 10 years but frankly with working full time as a nurse and raising 2 boys, and renovating our house, the dabbling was not frequent. A hobby I was never very confident in,  but over the last few years foot problems have taken over most aspects of my life and they have caused me to need to stop most activity. Scrapbooking is something I can do while sitting, and is therefore pain free. So this hobby has turned into a 'sweet addiction' of mine. My desk is always a 'beautiful mess' after a late night of creating. My confidence and skill have grown to the point that I'm happy to showcase my creations. And with a lot of free time on my hands for the next year or so while recovering from multiple foot surgeries, I have decided to try out this blog thing.

See what I mean about a 'beautiful mess'? This is the day after a particularly late night of scrapping. My bad habit is to leave the clean up til the day after before I start the mess making process again.

I have the house to myself today. I've been told I'm doing to much (how does one not?) and to take it easy. So the kids are in daycare/afterschool care. And here I am trying not to do much. So I need challenges to keep me motivated and inspired. Scrapbooking challenges. I have two in the works:

 1) A Top 10 list for Scrapbookin Adventures, our LSS

Scrapbookin Adventures Challenges

 2) Peridot #3 for Scrapbook Steals Midweek Mojo Series

Now if only I didn't waste so much time trying to figure out this blog thing (I craft way better then I computer)...I would have them done to display. But instead I'm going to show some of my creations from the last couple of weeks.

I could post more because amongst the National Scrapbooking Day, a 8 hr crop at my LSS, and lots of nights scrapping at home while I 'recover'...I have done lots of layouts these past 2 weeks. But I'm going to stop here...and go scrapbook some more.
